This is the sign up post for writers, podficcers and artists wishing to take part in round 2 of the ACD HolmesFest. Sign ups open now and close on Monday 28 January at midnight, Greenwich Mean Time.
By Sunday 3rd February you will have your assignments.
Latest submission date is Monday, 18th March, midnight Greenwich Mean Time. If you are in any doubt of meeting it or need to drop out, please let one of the mods know *straight away* so we can reassign. If you are going to be only a little late submitting, please let us know either in a comment to this post or via PM/mods email account (acdholmesfestmods@gmail.com), letting us know how near it is to ready, and we'll offer an extension, but you must commit to meet this or all our hair will spontaneously go white and drop out, possibly not in that order. Offers of pinch hitters gratefully received now or in future.

UST, Hurt/Comfort, -- I'd like to work potentially with any the following characters and/or pairings: Miss Violet Smith of Farnham, Violet Hunter (Violet Hunter/Sherlock Holmes), Irene Adler (Irene Adler/Godfrey Norton), Sebastian Moran, James Moriarty (professor), James Moriarty (colonel), Mary Morstan, Helen Stoner, Charles Milverton, Inspector Lestrade (Sherlock Holmes/Lestrade), Mycroft Holmes (Irene Adler/Mycroft Holmes) -- if anyone has a favourite story they want elaborated on, I'm familiar with just about all Holmes canon. I'm flexible with kinks & I like rare pairings (Read: LOVE rare pairings? You want Moran/Holmes? Lestrade/Morstan? ASK ME!) but I'm not great at writing PWP.
What you would definitely prefer NOT to work with: Holmes/Watson slash, plots which diminish Mary's role in Watson's life. Heavily explicit stories or stories involving non-con, character death, depression, a focus on drug use, Holmes-as-a-child or dealing with Sherlock's parents.

I'd also love just about any Lestrade/Sherlock, James/Sherlock, or Violet Hunter/Sherlock stories! I really like plotty-pieces, or unexpected insight into characters and their motivations. If it's slash/femme!slash of any kind, I really like a healthy dab of Victorian pining/restraint.
A Crossover would be great -- something Edwardian in Sherlock's twilight years, (I won't pretend Maurice doesn't immediately jump to mind. Because Rupert Graves.) If you want to write me a gentleman thief story, I'd also love you forever. (could even be a secret gentlelady thief! :D)
And basically, any of the characters/pairings that I listed as being okay to work with, I'm down to get stories about!
What you would definitely NOT enjoy receiving: PWP, Anything that dramatically breaks ACD Canon (any worst than ACD broke it himself :P), I'm not really interested in AU stories, supernatural elements (ghosts need not apply!) Watson/Holmes, Adler/Holmes (either pairing is fine as far as epic bromance or buddy-cop Crime Fighting is concerned, I'm just not interested in romance between them),
Any other information you would like to add: I tried to fill this with as many things/ideas as I could to give you lots of potential stuff to work with. but please don't feel at all constrained by the prompts or suggestions -- and I'm sorry for being so long-winded.

Most tropes are welcome with the exception of Prefer Nots below.
What you would definitely prefer NOT to work with: No non-canon character death (or "death"), not very good at heavy angst, no non- or dub-con, no dark!fic.
What you would like to receive: Fic, please! Holmes/Watson preferred. Established relationship always fun, but would also be super into a first time fic as described below (not obligatory). I like snarking and domesticity and danger! and action! and Watson being a BAMF and Holmes relying on him. I like every point on the timeline, and would read 1880's H&W and 1920's H&W with equal enthusiasm. Kinks not necessary but always enjoyed include wrestling/oneupmanship, spanking, public or semi-public intimacy, light bondage, intelligence kink, teasing and denial. \o/

Any other information you would like to add: I'm really in the mood right now for Holmes as the instigator of a relationship: pursuing Watson, charming him, trying to build their friendship into something more. I want Holmes in love and going after what he wants, sure of himself, etc. I don't want a wilting flower sort of Watson, either. Reluctant or uncertain is okay, but not in distress or manipulated: willing to go along with it because he trusts Holmes. Maybe Three Continents Watson really did only conquer the ladies and has to be taught the joys of sodomy, or something silly like that. Awkward first-time a bonus. I want sweet and sexy with happy endings all around. Something like this set against the ground of a case (even a sketch of one) would be downright magical.

What you would like to receive: Fic, art. Anything with Holmes/Watson (or just Holmes&Watson, so long as it's about the friendship) and a happy ending, although I love a bit of conflict first. Both first time and established relationship welcome. Maybe something about the problems of keeping it all a secret, or taking into account Victorian attitudes to homosexuality? I love sofa-cuddling, h/c, hypothermia fic, men finding new and special ways to say 'I love you' without having to actually use the words, over-protectiveness, casefic that brings up unresolved issues, pining, unrequited love turning out to be requited after all, shared laughter. Supernatural/magical realism AUs welcome, but nothing too drastic.

Case-fic, missing bits from canon, and I'd be happy to try my hand a a remix of the recipient's work, if that floats her boat. I'm fairly flexible, but I'm not particularly gifted at explicit anything, and I'm not a fan of non-con.
What you would definitely prefer NOT to work with: Non-con, deathfics, PWP, heavy angst or "angst-lover" requests, torture porn (I don't mind inflicting whump in service of a plot, but pure whomp and nothing but isn't much fun)
What you would like to receive: Fic Fic Fic! I adore casefic, missing-moments, slices of life, stories that showcase relationships. A little humor in the fic is always appreciated, although you don't have to make it a humor-only piece; I like a blend of humor and action and, well, see canon. ;-) Double bonus points if you manage to work in one or more of the following words: tiger, caryatid, fragment, brothers, morning-dress. All that being said, if someone wants to podfic or remix one of my stories, that's brilliant!

BDSM (See the Victorian Exception), no babies, no children, and no story in which a character is feminized, gender-swapped, infantilized or de-aged.
What you would like to receive: Fic: Slash, Gen, Casefic, Crossover, Remix, Pastiche, Slipped-into-canon, or one of the untold stories told.
Here’s the Victorian Exception – I would like to see a story that plays with the seedier sides of the Victorian underworld – particularly impacting respectability. This could include going to opium dens, brothels and Molly houses, and this could include Victorian style Sadomasochism, or Sadomasochistic porn . The story could involve Holmes, Watson, Mycroft or a client at the door. No restriction on rating or theme. It’s up to the writer if they choose to go there.

Any other information you would like to add: I’m here for ACD’s Holmes and Watson. Take those characters and run with them. I would enjoy a crossover in period with characters from Highlander or Ripper Street, or coeval characters such as AJ Raffles, Dracula, Phineas Fogg, Professor Challenger, or Dorian Gray – those last characterizations drawn from period sources, not modern.

What you would definitely prefer NOT to work with: Very explicit and/or violent things because I'm awful at these. Though not too crude might be ok. I'm also not very good at supernatural/fantasy elements.
What you would like to receive: Fic! I like collections of vignettes as much as slightly longer works, favourite things are domesticity, violin playing & music, chemistry experiments, bickering, h/c, angst with a silver lining, and retirement adventures (with bees). I'd rather have friendship than romance, but I'm a sucker for fluffy H/W stories that don't go further than awkward kisses and clumsy hand-holding.
What you would definitely NOT enjoy receiving: Nothing too smutty (no PWP. Platonic and romantic are fine, so is ust, but nothing explicitly beyond that), AUs (as in drastic changes, I don't mind minor deviations or a retelling of a canonical event), supernatural elements, crossovers, any kind of out of character stuff (definitely NO darkfic, infidelity, non-con and the like), deaths that are not faked, graphic violence, childhood stories (except for the casual remark if Mycroft is involved). What you would like to receive: Fic, either casefic or a piece focusing on the deep friendship or romantic relationship between Holmes and Watson. Dark fic is welcome, particularly stories in which people reach for love or redemption under the darkest of circumstances. I'd enjoy any rating, from G to NC-17. I'm fascinated by how people manage to write in-character, Victorian-era slash! I very much enjoy porn (BDSM or otherwise) that plays with consent, control, and TRUST, above all else.
What you would definitely NOT enjoy receiving: No gender-swap, pregnancy, non-canonical character death, or pieces in which Watson is incompetent. No pure PWP. If you're in the mood to write porn, I would be delighted to receive it, but please include some type of plot or character development in addition to the sex.
Any other information you would like to add: I've had a particular hankering recently for a story in which Watson is an unreliable narrator in his canonical published stories because he does not want to reveal the full extent of Holmes' eccentricities to the public.

What you are comfortable working with as a creator: - e.g. gen, het, slash, holmes / or & watson, with or without Mary Morstan, other characters sans romance or sex, casefic, humour, h/c, angst, preferred tropes or kinks injured or Amazing Watson, clueless Holmes, silliness, etc: I especially enjoy chronology musings, and AU's.
What you would definitely prefer NOT to work with: Moriarty -- he bores me at this point, honestly. (Although I could probably be persuaded to write Moran during the hiatus.) And while I happily read smut, I need a collaborator of brilliance or an especially vicious anklebiting plotbunny to write the stuff.
What you would like to receive: I'd love artwork, especially anything illustrating one of my stories. I'd also be happy with fic, especially if it takes canon and diverges, or looks at the story from a different point of view.
What you would definitely NOT enjoy receiving: good characters being evil. Hurt without comfort. Rapefic. Moriartyfic. Mycroft in a sexual situation. And probably not Irene Adler unless you are willing to risk being looked at askance for getting her wrong.

Type of work(s) you are willing to offer: Fic, most likely between 1000 and 5000 words.
What you are comfortable working with as a creator: Slash or gen, although gen is likely to turn into platonic Holmes/Watson love. Also, I don’t think I could manage any pairings beside H/W (or possibly Watson/Mary). If anyone’s interested in Watson/Lestrade platonic friendship, I’d be glad to explore that further.
I don’t think I’ll manage a case-fic this time around, but I’d feel comfortable with character studies, missing scenes, third-person perspectives, angst in healthy doses, h/c and possibly a bit of fluff.
What you would definitely prefer NOT to work with: I don’t write anything rated higher than R. Non-con and anything involving children getting hurt are also way out of my comfort zone.
What you would like to receive: Fic or podfic; H/W slash or epic friendship. Plotty story would be nice. If there’s to be sex (which is not specifically requested), I prefer Watson as the leading partner. I have a particular love for established relationship fics, but again, that’s not specifically requested.
If you'd prefer a specific prompt (which you don't have to fill, just in case), these would be stories I'd enjoy reading:
- I like Irene Adler as a strong female character without being Holmes' LI. And Mr. Norton must be a remarkable man as well, even though we see little of him in canon. Maybe there's another meeting between them and Holmes/Watson/both in their later years? Under improbable circumstances?
- Mary Watson comforts her husband after his best friend's death. No sexytimes, please, because I think that would be about the last thing on their minds in that particular moment.
What you would definitely NOT enjoy receiving: Again, non-con and child abuse; also (permanent) character death, character bashing, unhappy endings and an overdose of angst or sugar.
Any other information you would like to add: I really have to kick myself to sign up this time, because I’ve got enough on my plate already these days. But canon needs all the love it can get, so I’ll do my best. However, this one’s probably not going to be long and plotty. I hope it’ll suffice.
Oh, and a prompt would be appreciated. Maybe that’ll get the wheels turning.

Type of work(s) fic - I'll err on the side of caution and say I can produce 1000 words no problem - more if my brain takes control and runs with it.
What you are comfortable working with as a creator: gen definitely, but I like to view ACD H/W as at least slightly slashy so I'm willing to explore that. I write and blend angst, humour and h/c generally. I would like to try my hand at some sort of case fic because I enjoy reading it.
What you would definitely prefer NOT to work with: - as above: Graphic sex as I'm new at it and don't want to disappoint.
What you would like to receive: - Oh gosh, I'm easy to please. If you're an artist, draw me something :-) - draw me something you've always wanted to try but for some reason didn't. If you're a writer, write me something that itched at you at some point but for whatever reason you didn't start or finish - and because I am a writer and sort of understand the headspace I will add sternly - go! start it! finish it! *taps foot* It's for a challenge! If you're an icon maker (or other) and you didn't jive on the drawing me something I would very much enjoy some ACD icons. Your choice - prompt = Holmes and Watson revolve around one another.
