[identity profile] tweedisgood.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] acdholmesfest
Now that all assignments are out (and thank you to all those who have acknowledged), it's time for the volunteers post.

In brief, for those of you taking part for the first time, we at [livejournal.com profile] acd_holmesfest pride ourselves that all the work is polished to the best shine that can be managed. To help people out who may not be as confident in the ACD 'verse, and/or who want to make their work as shiny as possible, we ask volunteers in the community to offer services such as beta-reading, spelling and grammar checks, Brit-picking, canon-related advice and historical background advice. Now you all know who your assignee is, there is no danger that anyone ends up seeing their gift before posting (except the mods, and we try ( a bit) not to peek).

So, please comment here if you can help, indicating what services, how many works you can handle and any exclusions (e.g. not wanting to read explicit work, themes you find upsetting etc). If you want to take anyone up on an offer, please comment via PM and email thereafter.

I can offer to Brit-pick and/or beta-read, SPAG, canon and general Victori-pick.

I'm away from 12 to 18 October, but outside those dates should be no problem. First come, first served.

No graphic non-com or torture - if in doubt ask by PM.

Do we need to be taking part to volunteer? If not, I can offer beta reading services: SPAG, plotting, general flow etc. No limit on rating or size but I prefer not to handle hard kinks (PM me if in doubt).

I did Brit picking last year without taking part (I found you too late!) In fact it's rather an advantage. I can't volunteer this year until I've finished my own fic - will let you know then.

I'm happy to do any kind of editing work other than Brit-picking. I'm not writing so should also be available right at the deadline if necessary. The amt depends on the length of fics and whether I end up pinch-hitting so I may have to say no to requests if I get too many. Still, feel free to ask. :-)

Also, should have said: I've been reading a bit of Victoiana and am certainly happy to help you research, but I'm hardly an expert in that area. But between Tolkien and Doyle fandom's I've got more than a decade's experience as a reader (beta and otherwise) and writer, and also have worked as a college teacher in writing intensive courses so I'm experienced delivering criticism constructively, and also am not shy about researching Doyle or the period. If you'd find that background helpful please do get in touch.

I have a pretty good ear for language and grammar. I can't Brit-pick (being an American), but I can Beta if time permits.
If anyone needs help with details about horses, hunting, carriages, clothing, stabling, and that sort of thing, I am fairly knowledgeable in that area.

If anyone is still looking for a beta-reader, I'd like to offer my services.

I can offer beta-reading, Brit-picking and SPAG-checking. And I'm no expert but I have a good, basic knowledge of canon, so I could probably help with advice there.

Any rating or length but no incest, non-con, extreme violence or explicit torture. (You can always mention content in the initial PM, if in doubt.) To be on the safe side, I'd better just commit myself to one fic.
