On the matter of AUs (alernative universes). We've had a query as to whether this only means "what if this happened in canon instead of that?' as some people have specifically included more 'way out' AUs in their lists of dislikes - eg on a spaceship.

I have added a note to the profile page. In brief, AUs, if used, should still be recognisably canon characters or plausible OCs, plots and occurences in speech, culture, time and place.
For our purposes queer readings of canon aren't AUs, obviously. A little research will tell you why, if you were in doubt.
What you can't really have is, e.g. Watson discovering antibiotics in 1890 or Inspector Hopkins being an extraterrestrial.

They should not however just be 'any more or less Victorian version' - which is why the profile specifically rules out those media adaptations which are set in the era but depart, in various ways, from canon.
