Date: 2014-05-20 12:47 pm (UTC)I had to keep it short or people would start noticing how awful I am with words(read:English), and Tweedisgood gave some great suggestions which gave the story the kick it needed.

Date: 2014-05-19 02:13 am (UTC)Omelton mentioned on their dA that the DEVI scene was their favorite moment from canon, I just had to squeeze it in.

Date: 2014-05-04 01:52 am (UTC)I mean, there's just so much wonder here as we follow their lives. Their first handshake in the laboratory. Holmes has his sleeves rolled up, there are bottles of sulfuric acid (SUCH a great touch) on the shelves. Then their near brush with death in Devil's Foot (which happens to be my personal favorite story, so YES on that front). Watson saves Holmes' life, dragging him out. God, Holmes' eyes as he considers what he knows Watson wants, but what he knows he himself cannot give. On page 5, I could feel him close his eyes in pain inside my heart.
I would PAY to read more like this. Your work is just phenomenal.

Date: 2014-05-19 03:03 am (UTC)Ahh you noticed the details, this makes me so happy. I also have a thing for Holmes rolling his sleeves up, it's inappropriate.
God knows what Holmes had in mind when he denied himself some Watson goodness at that time, but Watson is nothing if not persistent, even if took years :)
Thank you!

Date: 2014-05-18 10:17 am (UTC)I love the way your use of digital colour and texture is reminiscent of watercolours, so that even dark shades aren't too overwhelming and the slightly desaturated look suits the fact that the story is Watson's memories. And I'm also impressed by the way you draw hats, because hats are always hard for me to draw.
I also love the fact that we never see Holmes' face full-on, and the only time we see his eyes is in the pivotal moment after they've escaped the smoke.
The chemical apparatus in panel 1 is amazing, and the warmth in panel two just radiates out (I love the glow of the brandy).
Possibly my favourite things are the way you drew the smoke and the bright daylight from panel 5 on; thank you for including that scene from 'The Devil's Foot'!
Watson's pink cheeks and Holmes' disheveled hair and the tense lines of his back are perfect, and though I feel bad for them that it has taken Holmes so long to make the offer, I am glad that the story ends on a promising note (go, Watson, go!).
Thank you again for a wonderful gift.

Date: 2014-05-19 02:44 am (UTC)To me this is Watson's story, and Holmes has so much presence with him he outshines everyone (especially with his face), that's why I decided to focus on Watson visually.
I went to your dA, hence the DEVI scene. I was tempted to use your depiction of what really happened in the Giant Rat of Sumatra, just so you know :)
Yeah, my heart aches for the lost times and chances too, but it will be alright in the end *wipes tears*.
I'm so glad you like it!
