I am so glad that Holmes' voice worked for you. I considered writing from Watson's perspective but decided in the end to go by the dependable rule of thumb for choosing a perspective. And who would argue that Holmes wasn't the one most changed by this consideration of human nature as inextricably tied to how we speak of what we experience and feel? I'm so glad it was easy to visualize for you!! I can see it too - but it's always hard to know whether it comes across to readers also. And of course, there is enough misogyny in the world without me adding to it. Mary can be brilliant and lovely, we need more of that.
