Wow, this completely lived up to the intriguing header! The 'mechanical' aspect was entirely in keeping with the Victorian atmosphere, very impressive. And I loved that, at its core, it's still a warm-hearted story about human emotions, about Watson's difficult relationship with his injury and about Holmes' ever-present curiosity and his concern for Watson. Really well written.
And I'm quite confident Watson won't be shocked tomorrow morning, even if Holmes isn't ;D
