Thank you so much for your lovely comment! I’m so happy to hear that you enjoyed this story. I’m especially pleased that you found it easy to read. It was my first try at writing something in an epistolary style, and I was really hoping that it would come across clearly without becoming overcomplicated or confusing.
You’ve made me so happy by telling me about that field in Llanuwchllyn, what a wonderful thing! I have never visited there, but I’ve seen photographs online. There are even some remarkable photographs that have been found of what the town looked like in the 1860s, when Watson would have been a child.
Ha ha, I must confess that Watson’s uncomfortable encounters with the bees were quite autobiographical on my part! There must be something about my scent or body chemistry that attracts them. The only time I’ve been stung, as a child, was when a bumblebee crawled inside my shirt and under my arm, presumably tracking a scent. I also gave up on eating my lunches outside after the persistent circling of the bees escalated when one of them landed on my lips and searched around diligently for nectar. I have a similar effect on other insects, unfortunately. Once when my brother and I came in from playing together outside we compared our mosquito bites – he had three or four; I had more than twenty! So maybe it’s not surprising that I spent a lot of my childhood indoors reading things like the Sherlock Holmes stories! :)
Thanks again for your kind words, I’m really glad you had fun reading this.
