My dear Anon,

Mere words are not adequate to thank you for this treasure you've given me. From its structure - I adore epistolary tales! - to its meticulous research and layered historical references (I adore history, and the way you layered one historical account of ancient battles on top of another layer of WWI warfare, and then deftly wove in its relevancy to today's events is ASTOUNDING and AMAZING) - to its nods to characters throughout canon (Lestrade! Elsie Cubitt! Lord Baskerville! and MYCROFT!!!! Oh, Mycroft. Oh oh oh.)...WOW. Simply WOW, and AWE, and blissful enjoyment from beginning to end.

Really, this couldn't be more perfect. Beautifully written. An original and plausible take on the separation and the war. Impeccably paced. Touching and funny in turns, with sly nuggets of wit. Generous doses of compassion throughout, with the deep love, friendship, caring, and determination shining through every word between the correspondents - and a wonderful and well-earned resolution. Honestly, I'm gobsmacked. (And did I mention your fantastic vocabulary?)

Thank you so much for this fantastic care package of a fic, packed so full of wonderful things. It couldn't have come a better time, and I am deeply grateful. I look forward to thanking you 'in person' at the reveal.

Very truly yours,

Violet
