Oh, what a lovely and restful mental vacation this has been -- your story is so well timed, I feel like I have been out walking through the heather and listening to the crash of the waves against the cliffs. Definitely very much what I needed today.
I also love the delicate emotional through-line of the story, as the two lovers enjoy their seclusion -- wailing bed and all -- and quietly reach a new level of commitment and security in one another and their shared future. They feel married now :)
Their racing their bicycles up and down those hills like schoolboys was so cute, too. That's one joy they'll be glad they shared early, since I imagine in retirement those hills will start to become more of an inconvenience!
