Signups are here! Please comment to this post to sign up for Round 8 of ACD Holmesfest, a gift exchange for fic and art relating only to the original stories and novels of Sherlock Holmes and Dr John Watson by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Please see our community profile for more details and some comm rules.

Sign-ups close Wednesday 15th January 2020 midnight BST.
Assignments will be sent out by Friday 24th January.
Submission deadline is on the end of leap day, 29th February midnight BST.
Posting will begin on the Ides of March (15 March).
Reveal post 1 April (or thereabouts, depending on how many signups we get).

*PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP UNLESS YOU WILL DO YOUR VERY BEST TO COMPLETE YOUR ASSIGNMENT*

Remember this is a gift exchange and we don't want people to be disappointed. If however after starting you are in any doubt of meeting the submission deadline or need to drop out for valid reasons, please let one of the mods know *straight away* so we can reassign. If you are going to be only a little late submitting, please let us know via PM/mods email account (acdholmesfestmods@gmail.com), estimating know how near it is to ready, and we'll offer an extension, but you MUST commit to meet this new deadline or the mods will be more than a bit peeved. One of us is British, which should tell you something.

Offers of pinch hitters gratefully received now or in future: there will be a volunteers' post for that and for beta duties. N.B. It is possible to offer only to pinch hit if you cannot be sure of being able to participate otherwise.

Template for requests/offers:

DW name: Your DW name here, preferably linked to your DW journal page or profile.
email address: YouraddyATemailproviderDOTcom OR if you prefer not to put this in an open comment, please email or PM mods with this information. For long-time participants, please do this anyway, as we might or might not still have a current address for you.
Type of work(s) you are willing to offer: e.g. fic, art or both. We have no minimum word limit for fics but something reasonably substantial, i.e. over 1,000 words, would be nice.
What you are comfortable working with as a creator: - e.g. gen, het, slash, particular pairings/multiples, casefic, humour, h/c, angst, preferred tropes or kinks [please list], how high a rating will you go, etc: we encourage as much latitude as possible to make it easier to match and because variety is good. Remember that this is an ACD fest.
What you would definitely prefer NOT to work with: - as above

What you would like to receive: - type(s) of fanwork, preferences as above. If art, please do NOT specify only wanting your fic illustrated. Not all artists like to do that.
What you would definitely NOT enjoy receiving: - exclusions as above
Any other information you would like to add: You’d be surprised how helpful this can be to the one gifting you as well as your faithful mods.
Whether, if needed, you could offer to pinch hit to avoid someone being disappointed: Simple yes/no question, at last!

Your mods are moderately busy people who don’t do this often, so there may be technical glitches. Please try to be patient with us and we will fix problems brought to our attention as soon as we can.

Any queries of any kind, PM any of the mods or send email to acdholmesfestmods@gmail.com. We are not online 24/7, so there may be a short wait to get a reply.

Type of work(s) I am willing to offer: fic or podfic
What I am comfortable working with as a creator: gen, het, femslash, slash, poly. Ratings up through Mature (although there's an outside chance of producing porn, if the muses and my match agree). Hurt/comfort, humour, slice-of-life, relationship negotiations, canon divergence, SF-nal AUs. I'm especially happy to write the minor characters of canon.

What I would definitely prefer NOT to work with: Depression, suicide, drug addiction, homophobia, Moriarty, kidfic.

What I would like to receive: fic, art, or podfic. As far as ships go, I'm flexible: any permutation of Holmes, Watson, and Mary as pleases you (including pairs or ampersands); femslash is excellent; gen is always enjoyed. I'm fond of Holmes and Watson, if that's your preference, but would be thrilled to see the minor characters of canon brought into POV position; I'm also down with Original Characters, in either ship-fic or gen-fic. Genderswap is also good (cis or trans are equally pleasing to me). I enjoy the conceit that Watson is a lying liar who lies -- feel free to tell/show me what really went down. I'd also be happy with an SF-nal adventure -- everything is better with dinosaurs, is it not?

I'm fond of Mary and believe she and Watson were genuinely in love; please don't make her a literary fiction or a beard. I'm a big fan of people loving each other generously and to the very best of their ability (however flawed that ability may be). As much as I like getting-together fic, I adore established relationships and the accumulated history and weirdnesses of people who have been together forever. I'm generally fine with heavy themes, but I firmly believe that people are incredibly resourceful at scrabbling together some happiness for themselves -- please leave your characters a path to happiness, even if they're only just starting down it.

No rating above Mature, please, and no ending grimmer than bittersweet.

If you're arting or podficcing and you'd like to take one of my stories for a spin, please feel free. (But don't feel you have to, either!)

What I would definitely NOT enjoy receiving: Suicide, non-con, child abuse, torture, or unrelieved suffering. Homophobia or transphobia as the thematic center of the work. Mary as a literary fiction or a beard.

Any other information you would like to add: None.

Whether, if needed, you could offer to pinch hit to avoid someone being disappointed: No, sorry.
