Signups are here! Please comment to this post to sign up for Round 8 of ACD Holmesfest, a gift exchange for fic and art relating only to the original stories and novels of Sherlock Holmes and Dr John Watson by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Please see our community profile for more details and some comm rules.

Sign-ups close Wednesday 15th January 2020 midnight BST.
Assignments will be sent out by Friday 24th January.
Submission deadline is on the end of leap day, 29th February midnight BST.
Posting will begin on the Ides of March (15 March).
Reveal post 1 April (or thereabouts, depending on how many signups we get).

*PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP UNLESS YOU WILL DO YOUR VERY BEST TO COMPLETE YOUR ASSIGNMENT*

Remember this is a gift exchange and we don't want people to be disappointed. If however after starting you are in any doubt of meeting the submission deadline or need to drop out for valid reasons, please let one of the mods know *straight away* so we can reassign. If you are going to be only a little late submitting, please let us know via PM/mods email account (acdholmesfestmods@gmail.com), estimating know how near it is to ready, and we'll offer an extension, but you MUST commit to meet this new deadline or the mods will be more than a bit peeved. One of us is British, which should tell you something.

Offers of pinch hitters gratefully received now or in future: there will be a volunteers' post for that and for beta duties. N.B. It is possible to offer only to pinch hit if you cannot be sure of being able to participate otherwise.

Template for requests/offers:

DW name: Your DW name here, preferably linked to your DW journal page or profile.
email address: YouraddyATemailproviderDOTcom OR if you prefer not to put this in an open comment, please email or PM mods with this information. For long-time participants, please do this anyway, as we might or might not still have a current address for you.
Type of work(s) you are willing to offer: e.g. fic, art or both. We have no minimum word limit for fics but something reasonably substantial, i.e. over 1,000 words, would be nice.
What you are comfortable working with as a creator: - e.g. gen, het, slash, particular pairings/multiples, casefic, humour, h/c, angst, preferred tropes or kinks [please list], how high a rating will you go, etc: we encourage as much latitude as possible to make it easier to match and because variety is good. Remember that this is an ACD fest.
What you would definitely prefer NOT to work with: - as above

What you would like to receive: - type(s) of fanwork, preferences as above. If art, please do NOT specify only wanting your fic illustrated. Not all artists like to do that.
What you would definitely NOT enjoy receiving: - exclusions as above
Any other information you would like to add: You’d be surprised how helpful this can be to the one gifting you as well as your faithful mods.
Whether, if needed, you could offer to pinch hit to avoid someone being disappointed: Simple yes/no question, at last!

Your mods are moderately busy people who don’t do this often, so there may be technical glitches. Please try to be patient with us and we will fix problems brought to our attention as soon as we can.

Any queries of any kind, PM any of the mods or send email to acdholmesfestmods@gmail.com. We are not online 24/7, so there may be a short wait to get a reply.

Type of work(s) you are willing to offer: fic, or a book cover/chapter headers for an author's existing work (these would be made with stock photos, filters, and fonts, not photo manips)
What you are comfortable working with as a creator: anything, really but I would prefer someone who at least requests more than one option so that I can pick - especially if being matched/paired on a more unique or rare request.
What you would definitely prefer NOT to work with: as long as there is more than one option/suggestion I do not mind entertaining any request

What you would like to receive: fic, or a book cover or podfic of one of my existing stories - I am partial to Holmes/Watson as a romantic pairing. I also enjoy Watson/Mary and Holmes/Hopkins as romantic pairings. If not pairing Holmes & Watson romantically, then I very much enjoy a very deep and committed friendship between the two regardless of who they are paired with. No pairings are also acceptable. Slice-of-life, casefic, domesticity, what-really-happened stories, retirement, are all wonderful. melancholy stories are also fine, but I am not a fan of unresolved misunderstandings between two people who love each other (romantically or not). Elements of magical realism are also perfectly acceptable.
What you would definitely NOT enjoy receiving: I would prefer not to receive any works that focus primarily on child abuse or non-consensual sexual violence (included as an element of a crime is fine, but not the focus of the story, please).
Any other information you would like to add: I am happy to be paired with someone who may have offered something I didn't request and will happily provide additional information and prompts if that is the case or requested. I truly mean anything on matching for my offer - having experience with these types of exchanges I am perfectly aware of what I am offering and I am explicitly offering to create for items that I have not listed above. I enjoy a challenge and tend to take a prompt and run with it even if I've never worked with those characters or subjects before.
Whether, if needed, you could offer to pinch hit to avoid someone being disappointed: sadly, no, not this time
