Yep, sorry, it was definitely NOT intended as a criticism (if the author is the who I think it is, I am hopeful they will know this already ;)) I mean to say that I find it very believable in terms of human behaviour, and I'm glad Watson was given the opportunity to have a human (ie complicated, untidy) reaction. I am very much a Queer history nerd, and one of the things I like about Holmes fandom is that it increasingly engages with these topics. There are so many layers to these situations and I like the theme of Watson applying his own circumstances (discreet and potentially compromising affair with a woman) along with his rough understanding of 'men with men' and feeling angry with Holmes for a dozen reasons. I had the impression that, after his chat with Hopkins, he probably came to a more nuanced idea of both the risks and the nature of their situation, but that initial blow-up reaction is spot on I think.
