I love this little glimpse into Watson's life after Holmes's disappearance. Nice foreshadowing with Mary's little cough. Poor Watson is so looking forward to the future with her, too.
You have neatly fitted Watson into the characters from Dorian Gray also, but Basil's last name is Hallward, not Howard. That's a small quibble, though, in a very well-reasoned story.
