A/N: Thanks to my beta, [livejournal.com profile] thesmallhobbit, who, as usual, did a wonderful job, but also corrected my errors with some of the terms. [livejournal.com profile] kizzia, case fic is not my usual area and I stretched myself a bit, trying to create and solve a crime, but I hope you enjoy this.

Title: The Adventure of the Bishopsgate Jewel Case
Recipient: [livejournal.com profile] truly_bohemian
Author: [livejournal.com profile] inamac
Characters: Holmes, Watson, Athelney Jones
Rating: Gen
Warnings: None
Word Count: 3000
Summary: An afternoon stroll along a London thoroughfare leads to the uncovering of a four-hundred year old mystery.
Acknowledgements: My thanks to our Mod for patience when I was late finishing this, and to my partner and beta for keeping my nose to the grindstone (or the laptop). And to [livejournal.com profile] truly_bohemian for a request for casefic (I regret I could not meet your other suggestions).
AN: Researching Victorian Bishopsgate was fascinating, and very sad. Not one of the buildings which survived the Great Fire and past which Holmes and Watson might have strolled in 1886 is now standing. The seventeenth century timber frontage of Sir Paul Pinder's House, then an inn, has been preserved in the Victoria and Albert museum. Liverpool Street Station now stands on the site.

Beta Thanks: [livejournal.com profile] tweedisgood, who is wonderful, encouraging, and absolutely irreplaceable.
Disclaimer: Many canon references and snippets of text here. Hooray for the public domain!
Author's Note: [livejournal.com profile] stellinia, you asked for a story, potentially angsty, based on the gorgeous song "Good Morning Heartache". When I listened to it, I was struck by the idea of being haunted, but perhaps by absence rather than by presence. I hope this does justice to your lovely prompt.

He blamed me, of course, but what else was he to do? )
